Painters Ashburton

Postwar home painting in Ashburton VIC 3147, including Alamein, quoted and painted by Steve.

Hillcrest Painting and Flooring Services paints homes in Ashburton VIC 3147, including Alamein. Steve quotes every job himself and is on the tools, not a subcontracted crew, with over 30 years painting homes across Melbourne's eastern suburbs.

Ashburton is mostly a postwar suburb, and much of its housing was built by the Housing Commission. Victorian Places records that the Commission acquired land for its Ashburton estate in 1944, building began in 1947, and the finished estate held about 2,500 houses.

The estate was named after El Alamein, and its streets still carry wartime names such as Tobruk Road and Victory Boulevard. Alamein remains a well-preserved postwar estate, now mixed with newer homes in very different styles.

OUR SPECIALITY

Painting Postwar and Extended Homes

When a home has been extended, the new section and the original house can end up not quite matching, because the surfaces are different and the old paint has aged.

The answer is to prepare and paint old and new sections as one job, with the same products and the same number of coats, so the colour and sheen read as one house.

Older sections usually need more preparation: weathered timber, cracked filler and older paint layers are dealt with before any topcoat. Outside, we use the Haymes Solarshield system. See our exterior painters page.

Interwar Streets Too

Ashburton isn't only postwar. The Great Glen Iris Railway Junction Estate (HO227) is recorded on the Victorian Heritage Database as a precinct of 1920s and 1930s housing, with its original concrete roads and mature street trees still largely intact.

Inside, we work room by room so the house stays usable, and we agree the order of rooms before we start. Colour consultation is included with every job.

On walls we use Haymes Expressions, and on doors and trim Haymes Ultratrim. Read more about our interior painting in Melbourne.

What it costs

How Much Does Painting Cost in Ashburton?

There's no flat rate, because every home is different. These are the things that move the price:

Old and new sections: matching an extension to the original house can mean painting both.

Surface condition: older paint layers and weathered timber add preparation.

House size: more rooms and more wall area add time.

Inside, outside or both: a whole-home repaint is quoted as one job.

We don't price a job until we've seen it. You'll get a free written quote that sets out what's included.

What Our Clients Say

Trusted by Homeowners Across Melbourne

★★★★★

“Steve did an excellent job and we are totally satisfied with his work. We arranged for Steve to do a complete re-paint of our Edwardian house, both an interior and exterior re-paint. We were particularly pleased that he turned up when he said he would. A particularly nice touch was that as the whole project turned out to be less work than anticipated at the outset, Steve adjusted the final cost downwards.”

Ian and Cathy Taylor, South Yarra Victoria
★★★★★

“Steve and his team at Hillcrest have been a pleasure to have in our home. A couple of months ago we embarked on a restoration of our home which included all external and internal painting. Having the right team work with us and fit in with our family was important. Steve and Michael have been very professional, great communication with us, responsive and flexible to our needs and to any changes We would highly recommend Hillcrest to anyone looking for great tradespeople (painting and flooring) who know how to do technically proficient work and are just good people to have in your home.”
