Painters Box Hill

Apartment, townhouse and house painting in Box Hill VIC 3128, quoted and painted by Steve.

Hillcrest Painting and Flooring Services paints homes in Box Hill VIC 3128. Steve quotes every job himself and is on the tools, not a subcontracted crew, with over 30 years painting homes across Melbourne's eastern suburbs.

Box Hill has changed fast. At the last Census, more than half of Box Hill homes were flats or apartments, over four times the Victorian share, and only about one in five was a separate house. A quarter were townhouses, terraces or semis.

It's also a renting suburb. Close to six in ten Box Hill homes were rented, about double the Victorian rate, and one in six had just one bedroom. So a lot of painting here is smaller apartment and townhouse work, often for owners who don't live in the property.

OUR SPECIALITY

Repainting a Newer Apartment or Townhouse

New homes are often finished with builder's paint: one colour throughout, applied quickly to get the property handed over. The first repaint is where a newer home gets a proper finish and colours the owner has actually chosen.

Newer plasterboard can also show fine cracks at joins and corners as a building settles. Those are filled and sanded first, and any bare patches are primed, so they don't show through the new paint.

Ceilings, doors and trim are part of the same job. Doing them together means one set-up and a finish that matches from room to room. On walls we use Haymes Expressions, and on doors and trim Haymes Ultratrim. See our interior painting service.

Also covered

Box Hill Houses and Townhouse Exteriors

About one in five Box Hill homes is a separate house. For those, we paint inside and out, preparing weatherboard, brick and render properly before the topcoat.

Townhouse exteriors are a little different, because shared walls and common areas usually fall under an owners corporation. Anything on common property needs its approval before we start. Outside, we use the Haymes Solarshield system. Most homes need an exterior repaint every 7 to 10 years. See our exterior painters page.

What it costs

How Much Does Painting Cost in Box Hill?

There's no flat rate, because every home is different. These are the things that move the price:

Size of the apartment or home: a one or two bedroom apartment is a smaller job than a house.

Patching: settling cracks and marks add preparation.

Access: stairs, lifts and parking affect how an apartment job is planned.

Approvals: townhouse exteriors may need owners corporation sign-off.

Inside, outside or both: a whole-home repaint is quoted as one job.

We don't price a job until we've seen it. You'll get a free written quote that sets out what's included.

What Our Clients Say

Trusted by Homeowners Across Melbourne

★★★★★

“Steve did an excellent job and we are totally satisfied with his work. We arranged for Steve to do a complete re-paint of our Edwardian house, both an interior and exterior re-paint. We were particularly pleased that he turned up when he said he would. A particularly nice touch was that as the whole project turned out to be less work than anticipated at the outset, Steve adjusted the final cost downwards.”

Ian and Cathy Taylor, South Yarra Victoria
★★★★★

“Steve and his team at Hillcrest have been a pleasure to have in our home. A couple of months ago we embarked on a restoration of our home which included all external and internal painting. Having the right team work with us and fit in with our family was important. Steve and Michael have been very professional, great communication with us, responsive and flexible to our needs and to any changes We would highly recommend Hillcrest to anyone looking for great tradespeople (painting and flooring) who know how to do technically proficient work and are just good people to have in your home.”

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth repainting a new apartment?

Often, yes. Many new homes have a single builder's colour applied quickly. A first repaint gives a better finish and lets you choose your own colours.

Why are there small cracks in my newer walls?

Newer buildings can settle, which shows up as fine cracks at plasterboard joins and corners. They're filled and sanded before painting so they don't show through.

Do you paint ceilings as well as walls?

Yes. Ceilings are usually painted first, then walls, then doors and trim, all in the same job.
