Hillcrest Painting and Flooring Services paints homes across Melbourne's eastern suburbs: houses, townhouses, units and rental properties, inside and out. Steve quotes every job himself and is on the tools, not a subcontracted crew, with over 30 years in the trade, including more than 15 years painting homes.
No two suburbs have the same mix of homes. Some streets are older weatherboard and brick houses, others are townhouses, apartments and rentals, and each one changes how a painting job is planned. Below is how we approach each kind of home, and where to find more detail for your suburb.
Whatever kind of home you have, one free written quote sets out exactly what's being painted.
Walls, ceilings, doors and trim, in Haymes Expressions and Ultratrim.
Weatherboard, render and brick, finished in the Haymes Solarshield system.
Including jobs that need owners corporation approval.
Repaints between tenants, planned around your vacancy dates.
Extra preparation for old paint layers, worn trim and timber windows.

Older houses. Homes built before 1970 are the most at risk of having lead in old paint layers, according to the Australian Government's lead paint guide, and where a heritage overlay includes paint controls, repainting the outside needs a council permit. Our page on painting older homes in Balwyn explains both.
Apartments and units. Inside your own unit is generally your call, but common property belongs to the owners corporation. See how that works on our page for apartment and house painting in Kew.
Rental properties. Landlords usually repaint between tenants, and tenants need permission to paint. Our Doncaster painters page covers the rental rules.
Most residential jobs are either an interior repaint, an exterior repaint, or both at once. Inside, the work is about preparation, clean lines and keeping the house liveable while we work. See our interior house painting page.
Outside, it's about sound preparation and the right system for the surface, whether that's weatherboard, render or brick. Most homes need an exterior repaint every 7 to 10 years. See our exterior house painting page.
There's no flat rate, because every home is different. These are the things that move the price:
Type and size of home: a unit interior, a townhouse and a two-storey house are very different jobs.
Inside, outside or both: a whole-home repaint is quoted as one job.
Surface condition: flaking paint, damaged timber and old paint layers add preparation.
Approvals: owners corporation or heritage approvals can affect timing.
We don't price a job until we've seen it. You'll get a free written quote that sets out what's included.
1. Call or request a quote: tell us what you'd like painted.
2. Steve visits: he looks at the surfaces and talks through colours. Colour consultation is included.
3. Written quote: you get a free written quote that lists exactly what's included.
4. The painting: Steve is on the tools, and the space is cleaned up at the end of each day.
“Steve did an excellent job and we are totally satisfied with his work. We arranged for Steve to do a complete re-paint of our Edwardian house, both an interior and exterior re-paint. We were particularly pleased that he turned up when he said he would. A particularly nice touch was that as the whole project turned out to be less work than anticipated at the outset, Steve adjusted the final cost downwards.”
“Steve and his team at Hillcrest have been a pleasure to have in our home. A couple of months ago we embarked on a restoration of our home which included all external and internal painting. Having the right team work with us and fit in with our family was important. Steve and Michael have been very professional, great communication with us, responsive and flexible to our needs and to any changes We would highly recommend Hillcrest to anyone looking for great tradespeople (painting and flooring) who know how to do technically proficient work and are just good people to have in your home.”
