Hillcrest Painting and Flooring Services paints houses in Templestowe VIC 3106, including Templestowe Lower. Steve quotes every job himself and is on the tools, not a subcontracted crew, with over 30 years painting homes across Melbourne's eastern suburbs.
Templestowe is house country. At the last Census, more than three in four Templestowe homes were separate houses, and fewer than four in a hundred were flats or apartments, a third of the Victorian share.
Some sit on sloping, treed blocks, and some date from the 1950s and 1960s. On homes like these, two things shape a painting job: how you get to the walls, and what they're made of.
From one room to the whole house, one free written quote sets out exactly what's being painted.
Weatherboard, brick, render and timber cladding, with eaves and fascias.
Several roof lines and levels, planned so every wall is reached safely.
Walls, ceilings, doors and trim through every room.
Inside and out in one job, planned so you can keep living there.
Scraping, filling, sanding and priming before any topcoat goes on.

Templestowe's recorded heritage isn't Victorian terraces. It's houses built into the landscape. Manningham's Heritage Study Review records the Carter House (HO152) as a cream-painted brick house that steps down a steep slope set in bushland, and the Murray House (HO85), built from 1968 to 1970 in stone and cedar by architects Darryl Jackson and Evan Walker.
The same study notes 1950s and 1960s houses around the Templestowe village area, among tall Monterey pines.
Homes like these bring two practical questions to a repaint. First, access: on a sloping block, ladders and platforms have to be set up safely on uneven ground, so we look at access when we quote. Second, materials: timber cladding, fascias and eaves on split-level houses need the right preparation before the topcoat. Outside, we use the Haymes Solarshield system. See our exterior painting service.
Most Templestowe homes are family houses, so interior jobs tend to be several rooms at once. We work room by room and keep the rest of the house usable. On walls we use Haymes Expressions, and on doors and trim Haymes Ultratrim. Read more about painting interiors with us.
There's no flat rate, because every home is different. These are the things that move the price:
Slope and access: a steep block takes more setting up than a flat one.
Levels and roof lines: split-level homes have more edges, eaves and fascias to cut in.
Materials: timber cladding needs different preparation from brick or render.
House size: more rooms and more wall area add time.
Inside, outside or both: a whole-home repaint is quoted as one job.
We don't price a job until we've seen it. You'll get a free written quote that sets out what's included.

“Steve did an excellent job and we are totally satisfied with his work. We arranged for Steve to do a complete re-paint of our Edwardian house, both an interior and exterior re-paint. We were particularly pleased that he turned up when he said he would. A particularly nice touch was that as the whole project turned out to be less work than anticipated at the outset, Steve adjusted the final cost downwards.”
“Steve and his team at Hillcrest have been a pleasure to have in our home. A couple of months ago we embarked on a restoration of our home which included all external and internal painting. Having the right team work with us and fit in with our family was important. Steve and Michael have been very professional, great communication with us, responsive and flexible to our needs and to any changes We would highly recommend Hillcrest to anyone looking for great tradespeople (painting and flooring) who know how to do technically proficient work and are just good people to have in your home.”

We also paint homes around Templestowe, including painters in Doncaster and Balwyn North painters. For whole-home projects, see our residential painting in Melbourne.
Yes. We look at access when we quote and plan safe ladder and platform set-ups to suit the slope, so every wall can be reached properly.
Yes. Weatherboard and timber need sound preparation before painting, including scraping back loose paint and priming bare timber, and that's built into every exterior quote.
Yes. Split-level homes have more roof lines, eaves and levels to reach, so we plan safe access for each part when we quote.
